A Workshop on Small-Scale Farmers Land Rights in Burma/Myanmar organized by Democratic Party for a New Society (DPNS) with support of Burma Relief Center (BRC), was held at the Party Political Training School from 27 February to 1 March 2013. There are 40 participants in the 3-day workshop programmes. Farmers from different regions of Burma, activists, representatives from Farmer Desk of 88 Generation Students and party members joined together in discussion on issues related to farmers and their rights, such as land grabbing, land laws and land registration, and right abuses.
On the second day and third day, Mr Jason Lubanski from Northern Development Foundation (NDF) in Thailand made presentation on farmer movements in many different countries, land rights in Thailand, land grabbing cases in Thailand, Cambodia and Brazil, various campaigns of Thai farmer organizations against authorities and business corporations. Besides, he presented case studies of Thai farmer movements and their organizing and networking.
The workshop ended up with future action plans of farmer and activist groups for emergence of organized farmer movements nationwide and policy advocacy.
